Who You Calling a Dumbbell?
At last, I've found an adjustable, easily-stored and affordable set of dumbbells. I loathe lifting weights at the gym. Something about touching all those germy, sweaty, ne'er cleaned handles sets my guts a-roiling. So this (admittedly casual) search has been in the foreback of my mind for ages. And now my mind may rest. My ass and lats on the other hand? They'll be pumping.

Crusta-Kicks
Nike just came out with a limited edition set (only 200 pairs!) of New England lobster kicks. Packaged in a lobster trap-lookin' thing, and featuring a tablecloth-patterned interior, these are best enjoyed with McNamara's zucchini bread, corn on the cob and Jonathan Richman.

No Need, Much Covet
I have no need for a calculator that the F12 key on my MacBook doesn't fulfill. However, when it comes to need and want, I find myself in a rarely the twain shall meet situation more often than not. Hence, calculator browsing at the MOMA store.

I Can Haz Crap
Because I have no standards, I kind of love all some of the stuff over at Perpetual Kid. And yes, I realize it's basically a rehash of Fred Flare, but for some reason - I find it easier surfing. Besides, no matter how many times I fill up my shopping cart o'er at Fred, I can never seem to commit to actually buying anything. Maybe it's because I really don't need any more space-eating tchotke junk, but I demand to differ.
Anyhooos, here are some favorites from Perpetual Kid:

Doggles
The sun in Coloradey is BRIGHT. Seeing as we're a mile closer to it than most, and living in what is essentially a mountainous desert, people here are wise to use quality sunblock, gigundo eyewear and caution when blindly traveling towards the setting sun. When I walk Deuce in the afternoon, the trip west is often brutal on the peepers. I generally have a pair of enormous sunglasses to protect my sensitive iri, but the Deuce? Nothing, which bugs me, fan I am of shaded eyewear. It can't be pleasant to stare directly into a blistering star, or whatever this "sun" thing is.
Enter Doggles.

Important Bulletin
I have such a hard-on for bulletin boards and magnets and chalkboards and anything else that lets me clutter up my visual space with a bunch of random effluvia it's ABSURD. Note hastily photographed and very reflective examples below:
Thus, I was both delighted and intrigued by the embroidery hoop bulletin boards from Etsy seller LittlePrettyStudio featured on Decor8 this morning.
Prices range from $12.50 to $32, which seems perfectly reasonable when you think of all the joy and love I've brought into your life.
In other news: I'm judging senior theater something plays? something tonight and tomorrow at East High School, alma mater of three people I hold dear: Neal Cassady, Marie Grrrrruuueautiful, and Matt Suuuulliivanostein. I trust the depth of my background in the performing arts will stead me well throughout this challenge and I look forward to gettin' all Lorenzo Lamas about it.

Alas Alack, My Wallet is Slack
I would very much like to buy this rug by West Elm ($549 for 8 x 10) for my study, but am feeling the pains of a recent economical yet still bruising home-based spending spree ("new to me" Jenn Air stainless gas range/convection oven, lawnmower and gas grill off Craig's List + new bathroom sink [the same as Marcus and Jenny's] with a ten-percent off plus free shipping deal at Home Depot + new tile for the kitchen) and must say "neigh." I hope that others among my readers are not quite as monetarily strapped as I at the moment and can still, you know, enjoy the finer things of life. Like steak. And exciting underpants.

Ebay Once Again Tries Its Damndest to Make Me Purchase Wares
How charming would this vintage baby bath be burgeoning in the backyard with potted plants or, perchance, potted party Pabst? $165, however, equals $165 I don't have. Especially since I just got news that Deuce has to have laser gum surgery to correct her once delightful - now dastardly - dental deformity.

Cookies! Cookies! Cookies!
Speaking of exes and things I want, these black and white cookie plates ($25 each) are a Michael MUSTo for my birthday. Oh right - and to follow up on the first part of that sentence - El and I used to have a delightful eating coincidence each time we split one of these - I dug the white side, he the chocolate. It was for that reason that we knew we were meant to be! Up until the mid-90's anyway. Now I know Matt and I are meant to be because we both share an unholy obsession with Soy Delicious "ice cream" sandwiches and molasses cookies. To the point that he mentioned BAKING some of those brown wonder discs the other day. Pitter patter!

Ain't Too Proud to Beg
Ah, gents. Ah, ladies. My birthday International Women's Day is fast approaching and, as such, I'm going to be posting lots and lots of things I want, yet cannot buy for myself on this suckholio spending diet I've been on for the past several days. Today in beggary: Umbra.
Dang! I just went through Umbra's whole site and that shelf up there (which, by the way and trust me, would be super smoking underneath all my kitchen aloes and bamboos and Star Wars figures - word, Admiral Ackbar!) is the onlyyyyy thing I covet enough to go to the trouble of posting about. Granted, Angela's plate line for U+ has yet to be unveiled, so everything else pales in comparison but STILL, what's a newly-minted mendicant to doooo? Hold me, Boba Fett!

Pillow Biter
Back when I was going to open a shop, Chandler 4 Corners was on my list of suppliers. Typically, I'm not so drawn to the granny-crafted, country kitchen, have another cup of decaf while I comb my graying hair back into a sensible ponytail and clean this muck off of my gardening clogs look, but something about these pelllows just rubs in all the right places (specifically speaking: the orbital ridge, sacrum and "sit bones"):

I also like this one but would only buy if the Indian's mouth was in more of a grimace/howl. A gently smiling war chief? Pass the butter cookies, my sciatica's acting up again.

The Anti-GIMME!
Donot buy me this donut ex machina.
Seriously. I would weigh 40 more deliciously glazed and delicately sugared pounds by Groundhog's Day. In fact, if you find yourself ordering this for home use, time to face the corpulent music and admit you've just g-damned given up that whole "I would not enjoy dying of a massive heart attack" ruse. As well as that whole "I want to get laid again in this lifetime" dream.
Then again, who're we kidding? Fresh, hot donuts can warm many a lonely night.
